Day 5 done but ...

This was the most gruelling and uninteresting of landscapes. Already feeling tired from no sleep, the route took me out of the Welsh countryside and into urban sprawl of Warrington Wigan and Preston. Roads were very busy and it was just a hang in there day. I have developed a very painful left knee so am trying to protect it by using more push on the right. The problem seems to be across the top and also to the left side of the knee cap. Gets worse when I stop cycling! Any diagnoses please? I am sure this blog will cheer up a bit when we get back to nice views! 83 miles today so 427 in total.

  1. Tony, you have had a couple of rough days, sore knee, going to point the obviously out here, TOO MUCH CYCLING, Jon's advice is you have a skin full of lager to kill the pain, my advice plenty of ice packs, painkillers and rest when you can get it. We are all proud of you, I know I couldn't do it that is for sure. Match okay, result 0-0, keep your pecker up!

You sound like you have tendonitis--try an anti inflammatory like diclofenic
Try not to mash down on the pedals in too high a gear--select a lower gear and spin more even if that reduces the speed--on the very steepest bits try walking to change the way youre using the knee
Also check the saddle height--you should be almost straightening the knee at the bottom of the stroke
    Good luck again
